Why Summer Can Be the Best Time
We were chatting with a Park Fitness member recently about—you guessed it—weight loss.
We got to talking about the usual “seasons” of weight gain and weight loss. You probably know the pattern:
Halloween to New Year’s? Hello, cookies and comfort food.
January and February? Time to repent with resolutions and fat-burn goals.
But then they hit us with this:
“Not me,” they said. “Late spring and summer are my time to shine.”
They went on:
“I feel better when it’s warm out. I’ve got more energy with the longer days. And I don’t crave junk as much as I do during those cold, gloomy months.”
And the kicker:
“Plus, in summer I’m all about the fruit—give me watermelon, berries, peaches, apples… I’m snacking like a wellness queen.”
Here’s the thing—they’re not wrong.
Sure, summer sneaks up on us with its “ready or not, here comes swimsuit season” vibe. And a lot of people feel like it’s too late to make progress.
But that’s just not true.
We’ve had members drop 10% or more of their body weight in the warmer months alone.
Why? Because summer is sneakily perfect for this kind of thing.
The days are longer = more daylight for movement. A chilly winter evening might have you letting the dog out and calling it a night. But in summer? You’re out walking after dinner, soaking up the sunshine, racking up steps like a champ.
Sunlight = better mood. Longer, sunnier days have been shown to boost energy and outlook. And when you’re feeling good, you’re more likely to stay active and make healthier choices.
You’re less likely to snack out of boredom or low mood. In winter, a cookie feels like emotional survival. In summer? You might just grab some fruit and keep it moving.
Fresh produce is chef’s kiss. Seriously, farmers markets this time of year are overflowing with delicious, hydrating, low-calorie snacks that taste better than anything you’ll find in a wrapper.
Plus, try overeating watermelon. We dare you.
Fruit and veggies are low in calories, high in fiber, and can be the ultimate snack swap for cutting cravings and trimming cals without feeling deprived.
So, if you’ve been thinking you “missed your window” back in January, we’ve got news for you:
This might actually be the BEST time to dial it in.
Longer days. Fresher food. Better mood.
Sounds like a pretty great recipe for making progress.
Let’s go!
